Whāngārā Catchment Group - Event

GOOD NEWS : First Engagement Grant results are in and (spoiler alert)

It was hugely successful!

With the help of some funding from LFTL ( amongst others ), a recent pest control weekend held by Whāngārā Catchment Group at Whāngārā Farms went off with a bang.

150 people attended the event including 70 tamariki, whānau, and local landowners, targeting Mustelids, possums, goats, deer, and other pests.

A total of 1400 pests were removed which was double the previous year, showing what can happen when a community gets in behind and supports events and mahi like this one.

Whether it’s iwi, hapu, taiao, catchment or environment , LFTL awhi local Tairāwhiti groups with grants and administrative help.

“It has taken a lot of mahi for our catchment group to come together before the formation of LFTL - we are so relieved to have a collaborative organisation working across Tairawhiti to support new and existing catchment groups and for us to work more efficiently, sharing our learnings and projects recognising we are all connected across the community and landscape” - Sarah Williams / Whāngārā Community
